Life is too short not to…
Make Someone’s Day
Yesterday was international ‘Give Something Away Day’. To celebrate we gave away prizes to our member’s for their commitment to making someone’s day.
We asked them to do something simple, give a hug, check in with a neighbour, donate to charity or buy a coffee for a stranger. We were overwhelmed by the goodwill that was shown for others.
So what did these wonderful people do? Well, they ranged from donating to the RSPCA, buying coffee for strangers, gardening for an elderly neighbour, donating items to charity and giving hugs, amongst others. It was heart-warming to read the pledges and to think about the recipients. What was being given was far bigger than the mere act.

Each person recognised that a gesture, no matter how small can bring a smile to the receiver, perhaps even make their day. And there’s the added benefit that we get as the giver, in doing something for another without expectation of anything in return.
If we could all do one little thing each day, then surely our individual communities and our lives would be just that little bit better? It doesn’t require money or a lot of time – just a small effort to make a difference to someone’s day.
In that spirit, I’m challenging you to take a little step and do something for someone, not just on one day of the year, but every day. Help out a neighbour, give a flower or simply a smile. We can all do that!
“No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted”
I’m going to start by smiling at two strangers each day and to think about what else I can incorporate into my day. If you would like to get involved I would love to hear what you have committed to ‘give away’. It’s not hard, give it a try and I bet you bring a smile to your own face!
At the end of the month I might give something else away – it feels too good not to. Give it a try and tell us about it below.
